Agroforestry platform at the experimental farm, University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P), Morocco

Promoting agroforestry in Rhamna: UM6P's new 2.2-hectare platform enhances soil health and water efficiency for sustainable farming.

In January 2025, UM6P established an extension of an existing agroforestry platform. This new platform is based on Atriplex nummularia intercropped with annual crops and spans an area of 2.2 hectares. It integrates innovative soil management systems, such as sewage sludge compost, to enhance soil health, to improve soil water storage, and to reduce the post-planting dependence on irrigation.

TransforMed will use this platform as a demonstrative site to disseminate good practices for implementing and managing agroforestry systems (AFS) in the region of Rhamna (Morocco) in collaboration with the Provincial Department of Agriculture Rhamna (Direction Provinciale de l'Agriculture de Rhamna).
