ICARDA - International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Area
ICARDA is an international organization that for over four decades undertakes research-for-development to provide innovative, science-based agricultural solutions that improve the livelihoods resilience of rural dryland communities. Our non-profit solutions based on field-proven science are widely adopted across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. We improve the lives of millions of smallholder dryland farmers by climate smart crops, agrosilvopastoral systems and soil, water and agronomy.
Role in the project
ICARDA is leading Work Package 1 (WP1), which aims to build on existing successful agroforestry system (AFS) experiences as a foundation for planning restoration actions in new areas. Specifically, ICARDA will develop a comprehensive restoration and monitoring plan. This plan will establish a framework for tracking the progress of restored areas and will provide evidence of the ecological and socioeconomic impacts of various restoration actions. Effective monitoring, along with the dissemination of lessons learned, will enhance resilience and support the scaling up of these restoration efforts.
In addition, ICARDA is co-leading, alongside UVIC, the task focused on assessing the impact of restoration actions on soil and biodiversity. This task's goal is to gather data on the positive effects of restoration in the short and long term.
ICARDA is also actively involved in multiple tasks across all work packages (WPs).
