Work package 3: Socio-cultural drivers of AFS implementation

WP3 will explore the main sociocultural determinants and constraints to farmers’ adoption of agroforestry. Through a novel participatory approach that brings together actors with potentially conflicting interests, we will integrate knowledge and social network analyses with perceptions of responsibility, and dialogue with local actors, to address knowledge gaps and diverging drivers in the system. The specific objectives are:

  • SO1. Determine the level of awareness of agroforestry among farmers as well as their main motivations, constraints and values related to agroforestry systems in the study region
  • SO2. Map and evaluate the flow of knowledge on agroforestry through the local actor networks
  • SO3. Identify participant-derived potential solutions for seedling survival alongside grazing practices
  • SO4. Capacity development of local actors in facilitation and dialogue techniques

Tasks

  • Task 3.1: Determining awareness, motivations and values for agroforestry
  • Task 3.2: Social network analysis of knowledge and agency for agroforestry
  • Task 3.3: Solution scanning for grazing practices and seedling establishment through dialogue
