As part of the workshop, the group consisting of AGENDA, ANDZOA, and UM6P, visited a demonstration plot designated for the project’s agroforestry model. The “lighthouse” showcases a successful agroforestry model that combines argan plantations with caper bushes. Organized in collaboration with an association representing the project’s beneficiaries, this visit provided an opportunity to assess the site and engage with local stakeholders.
Initially developed under the DARED project (Développement de l’Arganiculture en Environnement Dégradé) by ANDZOA and its partners, the model has already led to significant achievements. Farmers in the region have adopted sustainable agroforestry practices with enthusiasm, sparking interest in additional plantings and encouraging collaboration among stakeholders.
The visit also revealed growing demand for diversifying crops in association with argan trees, reflecting the potential for further innovation in the region’s agricultural practices. Farmers and stakeholders showed strong interest and demand for expanding plantings and exploring new crop combinations. This successful first step establish a solid foundation for the project’s future in promoting sustainable agriculture.
This promising start underscores the transformative potential of the TransforMed project and sets the stage for further progress in agroforestry development in Essaouira region.
