At the Société Ouest Marocain (SOM) field preparation began two weeks ago, setting the basis for a 10x10 planting density (videos). Argan and Carob were identified as highly suitable plant species for the SOM farm due to their economic potential and adaptability to the region. Introducing Argan and Carob trees will enhance farm’s diversification, promoting its viability and ecological sustainability.
Regarding the Argan trees, the quality of the seedlings has been assessed by the ANDZOA team, from Essouira region. A total of 2.5 hectares of Argan plants grown from seeds have been planted mid-February 2025, and these plants have already been ordered and are available.
Another 2.5 hectares of grafted Argan plants are expected, but they will not be available until June 2025, as the team is still waiting for a quote from the nursery. Some of these plants will also be inoculated with Trichoderma, with discussions ongoing with UM6P to finalize the process.
For the Carob trees, 5 hectares of grafted plants have been planted mid-February 2025. These plants have been ordered at the nursery and are ready for deployment.
