At the project’s pilot site, the lighthouse, forage legume seeds (Sulla) were distributed free of charge to farmers on November 6, 2024, supporting sustainable livestock feed and enriching the soil in the area.
Another important achievement in the project’s development was the establishment of a sylvopastoral Community-Based Organization (CBO), “Groupe Développement Agricole,” on December 31, 2024. This local institution will play a vital role in supporting project activities including plantation activities, ensuring that local communities remain actively involved in the project next steps.
Finally, a national workshop took place on the 23rd of January involving key stakeholders (governmental official, policy makes, local communities, researchers) and aims to address challenges and opportunities facing sustainable restoration of silvopastoral systems in Tunisia. Several presentations were made followed by a discussion on the steps moving forward. After lunch the participants visited the lighthouse where they were exposed to the progress made so far.
These efforts underscore TransforMed’s commitment to empowering local communities and fostering knowledge awareness about agroforestry systems.
